Purpose
Define the story frame, the voice, and how narrative reaches a player who will never read a lore screen.

Think about
- The premise has one job: make the anachronism feel intentional. Srivijaya and Ayutthaya never coexisted. Candidate frames: a cycle of rebirth where fallen dynasties are given another turn (fits the Moksha title cleanly); a liminal afterworld where empires contend for release; an explicit "what if" sandbox. The first is thematically the strongest and costs nothing extra.
- "Moksha" is a load-bearing word. It carries genuine religious meaning in Hindu, Jain and Buddhist traditions — liberation from saṃsāra. Used thoughtfully it gives the game a real spine: dynasties bound to a wheel of rise and fall, playing for release. Used carelessly it is a sacred concept as a microtransaction banner. Get this reviewed by people from those traditions before the name is locked, since it is also your trademark and store listing.
- Melancholy is your differentiator. Every 4X is heroic conquest. Yours is about empires that ended — that permits elegy, ruins, memory, a quieter and more distinctive register than the genre's usual bombast. It also makes the art direction easier to make beautiful.
- Nobody reads lore panels. Everyone reads loading screens and hero barks. Push story into the places players already look: ruin discovery text, event intros, a line when a building completes, a defeated general's last words.
- Localisation is a launch requirement, not a post-launch task, given the target markets. Budget it, and keep the terminology bible as the source of truth so translators do not invent five names for the same rank.
- Player-authored story beats developer-authored story in this genre. The memorable narratives are betrayals, sieges and alliance rivalries. Your job is to give those events names, records and ceremony — a server history, a hall of fallen cities — rather than to out-write them.
